Tips for Surviving Medical School

Remember when you were a premedical student in college? It seems like a century ago for many of us who have just completed the first year of medical school. It feels that way because our lives have changed dramatically. Normal life seems to have vanished, and suddenly, 24 hours in a day are not enough to get through the enormous volumes of information that we are expected to learn for every exam. It seems virtually impossible. We barely have time to eat or sleep.
Medical school is not the end of the world. Take it from us, 2 students who have been there, when we say that medical school is what you make of it. Do not let medicine define you; instead, you should tailor medicine to your lifestyle. Otherwise, you might become overwhelmed by the demands of your new life and lose the sense of why you chose medicine in the first place.
How do you survive medical school? From the beginning, time management must be a major priority. If you can manage your time successfully, you can still enjoy your life to a certain extent. Studying in med school is not the same as it was in college; this is a new world where you have to explore different techniques and find what works best for you. In medical school, it is all about studying smart, not studying hard. If you don't know this at the beginning, you will learn it the hard way.

Menulis ? Siapa Takut ?

Believe it or not, writing is one of the most important activities since a long time ago. See ? Everyone can write, actually.

I was inspired by my friend who just won a national writing competition and the winner is able to attend an international competition. And the best part is, it's totally FREE, the registration and accomodation. Uh wow. I'm a bit envy and jealous then but thanks God it really encouraged me to improve my writing skill by write this post.

I always dreamt of winning a international scholarship since I was very young. Then i ask myself, what should i do ? In the end, I realized that writing is the best way to reach that.

Some people are afraid of writing things, including me maybe. I do admit that. I personally see some factors why it could be able. The first one, saya merasa saya tidak mempunyai bakat menulis atau berasal dari keluarga penulis. So, when the opportunity came, you rejected it. (it's so me -_- ). Sebenarnya wajar bagi manusia merasa tidak mampu melakukan sesuatu yang belum pernah dilakukannya atau sudah pernah dilakukan namun hasilnya kurang memuaskan. It's just sort of give up too early. So what you have to do is, bulatkan tekadmu dan benar-benar paksa tanganmu untuk menulis serta otakmu untuk memikirkan apa yang akan kamu tulis. Seperti yang saya lakukan sekarang, it's all for getting international scholarships :')

The second one is, sudah merasa bulat untuk menulis namun belum menemukan ide yang menarik dan akhirnya keinginan tersebut harus putus di tengah jalan. That's so classic! all we have to do is be more critical! Criticize everything around you and try to write it down every single thought.

Finally, what are you waiting for ? Yuk mari mencoba bersama-sama cara menulis yang baik dan terus menulis hingga akhirnya dunia menulis nama dan prestasi kita :)

You've Got A Friend

When you're down and troubled
And you need a helping hand
And nothing, nothing is going right
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest night

You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You've got a friend

If the sky above you
Should turn dark and full of clouds
And that old north wind should begin to blow
Keep your head together
And call my name out loud, yeah
Soon I'll be knocking upon your door

You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I'll come running, oh yes I will
To see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Ain't it good to know that you've got a friend
When people can be so cold
They'll hurt you, and desert you
And take your soul if you let them
Oh yeah, but don't you let them

You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there, yes I will.

You've got a friend
You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again (oh baby don't you know)
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
Lord, I'll be there yes I will.
You've got a friend

Oh, you've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
You've got a friend.

This song is dedicated to my bestfriend, Yuliza Rizka Andini, whose lovely dad had just passed away yesterday. Deep condolence for you and your family, dear. May your dad rest in peace and is in the most beautiful place beside our ALLAH.

You always have me, have us, your friends. And we always have ALLAH, The Greatest Power of All, to hang on whenever we need.

Though this tears felt so cold, we all hope to see your brightest adorable smile :)

We do love you, sweetheart :)

Sweet Stories from LKMMNas ISMKI 2011

LKMMNas stands for Latihan Kepemimpinan dan Manajemen Mahasiswa Nasional that already been held in Malang, 16-22nd of July 2011. It was one of the routine national gathering held by Ikatan Senat Mahasiswa Kedokteran Indonesia or ISMKI. And... luckily , Brawijaya was believed to be the host and absolutely the committee of this huge event.

As you see, there's word 'National' in it. It means that the representation of universities in Indonesia came to Malang and they, mostly, didn't know each other. They had paid around 500.000 until 700.000 rupiahs each to be able participate in this event. And you, must be an activist in your university senate, or at least you had participated in LKMMWil or regional. Not in term of discriminating, but this was based on what I saw.

So, on the D-Day, first day exactly, these delegation from all over the country gathered in Opening Ceremony. Uniquely, some of them were wearing their traditional clothes. They also introduced themselves and performed their traditional dance nicely. The OC ends at about 00.00 , and I was so exhausted. But I know, the real misery was even hadn't started yet.

On the second day, when I was the responsible person for the food, the rundown or schedule was totally insane. So, started with a lecturer of PSDM from dr. Eka Sakti from 8 am untill 12 am. WOW ! Such a dick, LOL. I can't imagine being in their position, listening to really complicated thing without a single break! Oh God..

Time by time, i started to know others' character, both the committee or the participant. One thing I remember the most is one of the participants, named Hadi, from Sriwijaya University, is a fried-rice maniac!  Every breakfast, lunch, or dinner, he always asked for fried rice. That's what we call freak. Despite that, He is a quite nice man too ;)

On the last day, we all went to Batu and stayed there for a night. Farewell party was a fascinating closing for a-week tiring yet memorable event. And couple hours after we went back to Malang, I realized that I'm gonna miss this event so badly. I realized that I found a new family and a brand new experience for sure. Thank you LKMMNas ♥♥♥

Arema Brawijaya, SMASH IT UP! GO GO GO, WE ARE SUPERTEAM YEAAAH !

Another Sad-ur-day Nite

yeah, this is already saturday nite (again), and I'm still stuck with this Life Cycle's slides which will be tested on Blok Examination on the 6th of June. It's still one week ahead actually, but you know, lots of work to do (sok sibuk) . Hahah

the next words you gonna read is extremely-unimportant and literally waste your time. so, please. think twice before you read this.

anyway, tonite is the nite most people r waitin for. first, it's saturday nite. second, there will be held final i-don't-really-know championship between MU vs Barcelona, which is I don't find any interest in. saturday nite is often related to romance or love or going out or (unfortunately) staying at home like me. in Indonesia, the boy usually visit his girl's house and .... , you know. that's youth tradition is called apel, kinda Indonesian slang which maybe you guys who haven't stayed here for quite long time, don't know it. i myself still curious about apel tradition. who was the inventor? why did he create it ? did he ever consider how it feels for couples in Long-Distance Relationship ? okay, stop. unimportant questions. -_-

despite that, i don't find any regret in staying at home while everybody's going out. you can do what you seldom do, like study, watch tv with your mom and dad, sleep, or even just write a post like me. however, so many advantages you guys can get from staying at home, like saving money, saving energy, and so on. all in all, i'm sleepy and bored of boring things that show boredom in a boring way. the end

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome

Hi everyone !

It's me again writing a lil bit heavy topic now, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Have you heard it ?
It's not about people drunk and died, it's maybe called Moron Alcoholic Syndrome LOL. Anyway, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is one of the birth defect or congenital malformation. Malformation is likely to happen during the third until the eighth week of gestation, because at the time, organogenesis occur.

So, this is what will happen to your beauty-innocent-fetus when you consume alcohol constantly during pregnancy, even the moderate alcohol ones. The central nervous system is particularly sensitive to alcohol, and alcohol-related neurodevelopmental disorder (ARND) may result from exposure. Furthermore, it also can cause  short palpebral fissures, maxillary hypoplasia, heart defects, mental retardation.

Pictures above show the characteristic of children with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS). They may also suffer from cardiovascular and limb defect.

I'm not gonna tell you complicated things cause I hate it too actually. In the end, I hope this article give you a snapshot about FAS and I really hope to you, especially girls, to stop drinking alcohol. This is just one of million bad things you may get from drinking alcohol.

Ciao :)

Let's Play !

Hi silence-friends !

Most of  us are afraid of English, or other language that doesn't become our native language. You guys not alone, me too. Though I have been studying English since I was a little, but I still found some difficulties in it.

So, let's play with English !

These are things I actually often do to keep

First, you can grab your iPod or blackberry and play a song, in english for sure. Then listen and try to understand  what the singer says. Try to write it down and play the song over and over till you get the full lyric. If you wanna check it, just search it on google and Taadaa! How it gets? Tell me later :0

Second, if you are socnet-freak. Try this edication socnet , Livemocha. Have you ever heard it? Or tried it ?
So this is Livemocha like. It provides writing, speaking, reading, and vocabulary practice and most of them are free. The best thing is, you can submit you writing to the site and let people in other countries check it and maybe add some suggestions for it. So, what r you waiting for ? Try it now and enjoy your exercise ! :D

First words..

Hi blogging world !

First of all, I'm Lia. Not so ordinary Indonesian studying at medical school. Actually i'm not good at blogging-things , though my brothers are. Yep, my elder brother is a techno-freak, and Im not kinda interested in it. But after i read his post on his blog , I suddenly got inspired by him and realized to learn to write and practice your English skill. That's why I made this simple blog.

err... dunno what am i gonna post then or when am i going to post the next post ! LOL
